Last Week's Results:
Varsity
SC Varsity started their CBJ Cup with Moeller on Thursday night at Chiller North. The Cards started the scoring in the first when Jack Jensen found the back of the net, but didn't heat up until the second period when Simon Keller, Harry Hadden and Jack Goodwin all scored. Moeller broke up the shutout in the third, but Goodwin followed with another goal to put the capper on a 5-1 win.
Taking Friday off, the Saturday night primetime game against Dublin Jerome at Chiller North featured smothering defense and a stalemate for both teams. Thanks to a Jack Jensen goal with 23 seconds left in regulation, the Cards managed to knock off a tough Celtics team 1-0. Dylan Bell made all the stops, saving 36 overall, to keep Dublin off the scoreboard.
Sunday's CBJ Cup Championship was at the friendly confines of the Ice Haus against Upper Arlington. St. Charles got the home bench while the Golden Bears were the visitors. This one was back and forth as the Cards got goals from Jack Jensen and Patrick Megahan to go into the first intermission up 2-0. Both teams took advantage of nearly every power play they had and after UA got on the board in the second, Will Howard scored to keep the lead at two.
As UA scored their second goal, Howard answered again to restore the two score lead. Jensen scored once more on a power play early in the third period before Upper Alrington netted two goals to bring themsevles within one. Goalie Dylan Fansler and the defense helped shut the door over the last few minutes to ensure the 5-4 victory. This marks the second time that St. Charles has won the CBJ Cup – their first was in 2014. Congrats to the team and coaches on a hard fought weekend!
