SC Varsity started their 2025-2026 playoffs against the Olentangy Braves on Saturday afternoon. Three goals in the first helped set the tone as Tommy Scharfenberger, Harry Hadden and Jimmy Zink each found the back of the net. After a scoreless second period, the Cardinals added on with goals by Will Howard, a second from Hadden, Simon Keller and Owen Shelley. Dylan Bell and the defense wrapped up the shutout (7-0) and advanced to play Olentangy Liberty in the semi-finals.
Sunday's matchup with Liberty was an intense and low scoring contest. The Cardinals got on the board in the first thanks to Will Howard and compliments of a beautiful feed from Tommy Scharfenberger. Patrick Megahan got rewarded for his play in front of the net and pushed a rebound in with 8 minutes to go in the second period to stake the Cards to a 2-0 lead.
Liberty managed to score on a breakaway with 5:30 left in the third, but Jimmy Zink responsed with another goal to restore the two goal advantage. The rest of the game was chaotic as the Cards had to kill off multiple penalties AND an additional man advantage as Liberty pulled their goalie, BUT goalie Dylan Fansler and the defense played outstanding and kept the game in check with a final score of 3-1.
The result pushes the Cardinals to the brink of a trip to the Frozen Four as they take on Dublin Jerome at the Ice Haus on Sunday, March 8 at 1:00pm. View the bracket to find the complete results of the central Ohio region bracket so far.
