St. Charles Hockey had a productive week on the ice even as school was cancelled all week due to inclement weather and cold temperatures. The Varsity Cards split their two games with Culver Academy and notched a victory over Northview on Senior Day at the Ice Haus.
As the program continues to grow, St. Charles Hockey was pleased to honor all eleven of the program's seniors including Varsity Captain Tommy Scharfenberger, Alternate Captain Dylan Fansler, Alternate Captain Jimmy Zink, Jamison Dehart, Patrick Megahan, Grant Mooney and Mikey Pagnotto.
SC White Captain Wesley Paini, Alternative Captain Mykolas Jackson and Alternate Captain Max Spires were also honored on Sunday for their roles on the White team this year as they've led that squad both on and off the ice.
Congratulations to SC Red Captain Nathan Hendricks for being recognized on Senior Day by joining SC White for their game against the Olentangy Braves. Nathan has been a leader and great example for the Red team all year and it was great to have him recognized for his contributions!

We wish to thank all the seniors for their efforts and dedication to the program over the years and know they'll all continue to do great things with the time they have left and after graduation! A big thank you extends to the Senior Night Committee as well for making the day so special for each of our seniors.

Last Week's Results:
Varsity
SC Varsity headed to northern Indiana to take on Culver Academy for two games, the first of which started on Friday night. Culver was hosting their own Senior Night, but the Cards' Jimmy Zink found the back of the net first before Culver pulled even. A goal by Harry Hadden staked us to another lead before the Eagles rallied for three of their own to make it 4-2 Culver after two periods.
The Cards stormed out of the gates in the third and drew closer with a power play goal by Tommy Scharfenberger, but couldn't get the equalizer...until Gabe Sotak delivered the game tying goal with a mere 4.5 seconds left on the clock as he ripped home a loose puck on a rebound (see below). That set the stage for overtime in which neither team could muster a game winner. After a back and forth shootout, Will Howard and Tommy Scharfenberger both had successful attempts while Dylan Fansler shut the door on the last shooter from Culver to finish things off (see below)!
Saturday's rematch was more subdued with Culver netting the only two goals in what was a 2-0 defeat.
Sunday's matchup with Northview was an emotional one thanks to the program's seniors all being acknowledged prior to the start of the game. Once the puck dropped, the play from both teams was pretty evenly matched. Owen Bentley came up with a huge goal to start the scoring, followed by scores by Harry Hadden and Simon Keller. Northview grabbed one back after that, but Jimmy Zink added a goal of his own to get the lead back to three. A goal on the power play by Northview brought things to 4-2, but that's where it stayed after some strong team defense and saves by Dylan Fansler. The Varsity team now gears up for the local CBJ Cup played at Chiller North this week.
Next up: Moeller at 8:20pm at Moeller on Thursday, February 5 to start the CBJ Cup

SC White:
SC White started their slate of games with a loss at the hands of rink rival Upper Arlington by the final score of 3-1. Evan Korosec provided the loan goal for the Cards.
The boys righted the ship the next day in beating Olentangy Liberty 5-2 thanks to goals from Fritz Oberhammer, Jake Zink, Evan Korosec, Evan Gough and Zach Nusbaum before turning around and defeating the Olentangy Braves 7-1 on Senior Day at the Ice Haus. Fritz Oberhammer started the scoring for a second day in a row while Evan Gough had a hat trick, Aiden Reel scored twice and Max Spires scored the last goal of the game.
With Sunday's victory, SC Red wins the Capital Hockey Conference Red Divsion – congrats to all the players and Coach Joe Gillespie and Coach Tony Savarin!
